13th Feb, 1879, in hyderabad, india, Sarojini Naidu was born. She was a child genius with an super talent for poetry and languages. By the age of 12, she had already written an impressive play in persian. Her literature skills earned her the title of The Nightingale of India, given by Mahatma Gandhi.
Early Life and Education :
- Her father(Aghornath chattopadhyay) was a scientist and her mother(Barada sundari devi) was poet. Upper class family.
- She shined in academics and received a scholarship to study at king’s college, London, and later at girton college, Cambridge.
- During her stay in England, she was inadeptly influenced by the suffragette movement and the ideals of justice, equality, and freedom.
Sarojini Naidu roles in Indian freedom movement
She participated in non- cooperation movement , civil disobedience movement and quit India movement and she played a major role in Indian national movement.
Crucial role to India’s Independence :
- First woman president of the INC (1925) – She was the first Indian woman to preside over the congress session.
- Salt satyagraha (1930) – She was one of the leading figures who took part in the dandi march.
- Participation in the round table conferences – She represented Indian women’s voices at global forums.
- Imprisonment for India’s freedom – She was arrested multiple times for her involvement in nationalist activities.
First Woman Governor of Independent India :
she was appointed as the first women governor of Uttar Pradesh in 1947. Her served period progressive policies was aid at improving education, healthcare and women's empowerment.
